Introduction

Vietnam National Petroleum Corporation (PETROLIMEX VIETNAM) formerly named as Oil and Grease Corporation was established on January 12th, 1956 and reestablished by Decision No.224/TTg of April 17th, 1995 by the Prime Minister of the Government. By January 12th, 2006, Petrolimex has been 50 years of establishment and development.
As a state enterprise of vital importance and special category, PETROLIMEX operates all over the country, ensuring the supply of 60% of market demand in oil products. PETROLIMEX always upholds its position as the main supplier, regulating, stabilizing and developing the fuel and petrochemical markets, positively contributing to the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country.
Strategic orientation of the Corporation is to become a strong business firm of the state in downstream operation, with fuel business as the axis while selectively diversifying its activities in product lines and modes of operation, diversifying forms of ownership, boosting up the industrialization and modernization program, improving the ability in cooperation and competition in the process of regional and world economic integration.
In line with the above mentioned orientation, Petrolimex is making every effort to invest in further development with a view to upgrading the quality of all fields of activities of the Enterprise. Focal tasks are as follows:

- To continue consolidating and developing PETROLIMEX market share nationwide; to boost re-export activities so as to advance to do business in countries of the region; to renovate and optimize modes of operation suitable to cooperation/ competition trend within the legal framework of Vietnam and the world, improving economic and ensuring socio-political effects at the same time.
- To keep on investing in technical infrastructure of the industry along the state master plan for development construction in order to build and modernize key projects such as terminals, storage tanks, pipelines, retail service stations especially modern service stations along Ho Chi Minh Highway, technical chains for fuel delivery points, lubricant blending, chemicals, bitumen, LPG… To continue the development of PETROLIMEX ocean tanker fleet, to push on the application of information technology in the management of business and the Enterprise. PETROLIMEX commits to the protection of environment and is willing to cooperate and share development opportunities with domestic and overseas partners.
- To give priority to the training program for human resources in 2005-2010, gradually fostering leading specialists of the industry and a contingent of dynamic and efficient business managers, a troop of oil workers well trained for present modern demand.
The main engine for development strategy is to bring human resources into full play, placing people at the core, considering the enterprise as a means for people to develop their creative skill, building and training an efficient work team, upholding the fine tradition of Petrolimex Vietnam, and reaffirming Petrolimex business ethics: a reliable partner at home and abroad.
